QUEZON CITY — Hidilyn Diaz of the Philippines will take home the first-ever gold medal of the country since it joined the Olympics in 1924.
She bested her opponents in the women’s 55 kg weightlifting category with a set record of 224 kg.
This is the second Olympic medal of Diaz after she won silver in the Rio de Janeiro 2016 games.
