445 new survivors bring Soccsksargen recovery tally to 22.7K

COTABATO CITY: The Department of Health (DOH) 12 (Soccsksargen) here has reported a total of 445 new recoveries from the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) as of Friday night.

Arjohn Gangoso, speaking for the DOH-12, said of the latest recoveries, South Cotabato has 234; General Santos City, 87; Sarangani, 73; North Cotabato, 33; and Sultan Kudarat, 18.

Gangoso noted that the huge number of new recoveries has improved the region’s Covid-19 recovery rate to 87 percent with a cumulative total of 22,712 recoveries out of the 26,076 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic in March last year.

“This big number of recoveries is a big boost for our efforts but we know that the fight against Covid-19 is not yet over,” he said.

Also on Friday, the DOH-12 listed 221 new infections, with South Cotabato topping the list with 74, followed by General Santos City with 51; Sultan Kudarat, 34; North Cotabato, 32; and Sarangani, 30.

“The big number in the new cases is the result of our intensified contract tracing and testing among people who were exposed to Covid-19-infected relatives or friends,” Gangoso said.

He said the figure brought the active cases in the region to 2,520.

Of the active cases, South Cotabato has 671, General Santos City, 637; North Cotabato, 595; Sarangani, 428; and Sultan Kudarat, 189.

The DOH-12 monitoring bulletin also showed 16 new deaths in the region, bringing the Covid-19 death toll to 839.
