TESDA-Abra gives starter kits to 25 STEP graduates

By Christian Allister Tubadeza

TUBO, Abra–The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Provincial Officer handed over last  week starter toolkits to 25 Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) scholars from the different barangays here.

Each of the graduates under the Bread and Pastry Production NC II program received with 45-liter capacity Electric Ovens and Kitchen utensils.

STEP is a community-based training program that seeks to address the specific skills needed in the communities. It is among TESDA’s scholarship programs that aim to provide free quality technical vocational education and training to deserving beneficiaries in the country.

The awarding was led by TESDA-Abra Provincial Director Braulio Dela Peña and Tubo Mayor Guilbert Ballangan during the Retooled Community Support Program (RCSP) convergence and orientation in Barangay Kili.

Dela Peña said that the skills and tool kits together will enable the scholars to generate income on their own thru entrepreneurial, self-employment, and service-oriented activities.

“With these new set of starter kits, we believe that you will able to practice and put to good use the training and skills you have gained from TESDA,” he said.

Celina Lawagan, one of the graduates of the training program from Brgy. Tiempo, said that she has started employing the techniques she learned.

“I thank TESDA and LGU Tubo because I am now producing cake and pandesal after completing the training course on bread and pastry production,” she said.

The hauling of starter toolkits from TESDA Provincial Office in Pidigan was made possible through the initiative of Ballangan and LGU employees. Philippine Information Agency
