Taraka LGU conducts Resiliency Trainings

ILIGAN CITY: The BFP-Taraka Fire Station headed by OIC-MFM SFO1 Maria Estrellieta G. Lara, in coordination with LGU-Taraka under the leadership of Mayor Nashiba U. Gandamra-Sumagayan and MDRRMO Taraka headed by Abdul Hasim C. Badron conducted a Firefighting and Basic Rescue Training and Disaster Risk Reduction Course for the members of the Rescue Teams from MDRRMO and the 43 BDRMMOs on July 12 to July 16, 2021.

The first three days of the program were for firefighting and Basic Rescue Training and the last two days were for Disaster Risk Reduction Course of Philippine Red Cross and LGU Taraka.

The five-day activity includes series of lectures and actual demonstrations given by the resource speakers from BFP-Taraka, MDRRMO Taraka as well as the guests from the Philippine Red Cross – Lanao Chapter. The participants were also given an opportunity to put into practice what they have learned.

Mayor Sumagayan opens the program by encouraging everyone to participate in the training and learn everything by heart. She emphasized the importance of the training and its application in order to reduce the impact of such disasters on the community as she believes that the said training is not just for compliance and it needs to put into action.

“Our goal is to save as many lives as possible.” Sumagayan said.

The program aimed at increasing the municipality’s resiliency in terms of saving lives during unprecedented disasters or calamities.

The participating BDRRMOs applied what they have learnt from Day 1 to Day 3 in the Field Training Exercises or Simulation as last/final part of training supervised by the Trainors from BFP-Taraka Fire Station

Meanwhile, the fourth day of Resiliency training of our BDRRMO was also the first day of the Disaster Risk Reduction Course of the Philippine Red Cross and LGU Taraka. The good Councilor Hon. Halim G. Mangata, Chairman on Public Safety and Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation Committee, opened the program and gave a welcome address to the trainees.

On this day, the program has clarified what Disaster risk reduction is as a profession and as an advocacy.
