MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur–The Bangsamoro Government and the Provincial Government of Lanao del Sur broke ground on Tuesday, July 6, for the construction of a P400 million Marawi water supply expansion and rehabilitation project.
Interior and Local Government Minister Lawyer Naguib Sinarimbo, Provincial Governor Mamintal Alonto-Adiong Jr., and Marawi Mayor Majul Gandamra led the capsule laying in Barangay Gadongan, here, symbolizing the start of the project construction.
The water expansion project aims to provide potable water supply to residents of 40 barangays of the city including Mindanao State University, the Bless Area, and the Pugaan area.
It complements the Task Force Bangon Marawi’s (TFBM) rehabilitation project, a fulfillment of the commitment of Chief Minister Al Haj Murad Ebrahim expressed in his 12-Point Agenda that Marawi rehabilitation is a priority.
“This demonstrates the continuing commitment of the Bangsamoro Government to respond to the needs of our communities and partners with willing and able LGUs in the region,” said Sinarimbo who represented the Chief Minister during the ceremony.
The project will be implemented by the provincial government of Lanao del Sur.
“The water supply in Marawi City has always been a perennial problem. We have always requested solutions to this. Thankfully, the Bangsamoro government has approved our request,” Adiong said.
Checks representing 50 percent of the project cost were also handed over during the groundbreaking rites to fast track the implementation of the project. Philippine Information Agency
