MARAWI CITY, June 5–The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) through its Social Healing and Peacebuilding (SHAPE) Department convened 56 youths in this city and nearby municipalities in Lanao del Sur to gather recommendations in crafting the regional plan on youth, peace and security (RPYPS).
The activity, dubbed Regional Youth Peace Consultation on Formulation of Action Plan on Youth, Peace and Security is anchored on United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 2250 recognizing the efforts of the youth in peacebuilding.
“Ang aim o objective nito ay makuha ang suporta, participation ng kabataan para tulungan kami at kunin ang kanilang ideya o recommendation para sa pagbuo ng youth, peace, security national action plan,” said Karen Marla N. Rodulfo, head of OPAPP’s Youth, Peace and Security Division.
[The aim or objective is to gather support and participation of the youth to help us and to collect their ideas or recommendations in crafting the youth, peace, security national action plan.]
Rodulfo also emphasized that the RPYPS is centered on participation, partnerships, prevention, protection and disengagement, and re-integration as five pillars for action related to young people’s contribution to peace processes and conflict resolution.
“Dito nakasentro ang usapin ng YPS. Ang iniaim ay magparticipate ang kabataan sa 5 pillars. We ensure na well represented ang kabataan, gusto namin ihighlight talaga ang highly participatory,” she added.
[This is where the YPS discussion is centered. The goal is for the youth to participate in the 5 pillars. We ensure that the youth are well represented, we really want to highlight highly participatory.]
Another workshop on RPYPS will be conducted to reach more youth in Lanao del Sur province.
For other regions in Visayas and Luzon, RPYPS will be held in a blended modality, through face-to-face discussions or video teleconferencing. Philippine Information Agency
