119 conflict-free villages in NorMin get Php20 million project support

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-X Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño shares during the virtual Lanao del Norte/Iligan City Levelling Session on Executive Order No. 70 that a total of 119 conflict-free villages in Northern Mindanao were identified as beneficiaries of the Support to the Barangay Development Program, this year.

ILIGAN CITY, May 25–A total of 119 conflict-free villages in Northern Mindanao were identified as beneficiaries of the Support to the Barangay Development Program (SBDP) under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF), this year.

National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-X Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño shared this during the virtual Lanao del Norte/Iligan City Levelling Session on Executive Order No. 70 on Tuesday.

Cariño said these villages are based on the list of cleared barangays of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC)

According to her, a total of 306 projects amounting to Php2.380 billion will be implemented in these barangays.

“Niadtong April 22, ang DBM nag issue na sa Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) and Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) aron sa dili madugay masugdan na ang pag-implementar sa mga programa,” she said.

[On April 22, the DBM has issued the Special Allotment Release Order (SARO) and Notice of Cash Allocation (NCA) so that the implementation of the programs can begin soon.]

The SBDP aims to bring infrastructure and development projects to neglected barangays that have been cleared of communist influence. It includes projects such as farm-to-market roads; school buildings; health stations; assistance to indigent families; water and sanitation systems; electrification; agricultural, livelihood technical trainings; housing; COVID-19 vaccination and health-related projects;  and reconstruction projects in connection with the occurrence of natural disasters and crises resulting from insurgencies.

Meanwhile, Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG)-10 Regional Director Arnel Agabe recognized the efforts of Regional Task Force (RTF) members for facilitating the documents for the release of the Php20 million to each of the barangay beneficiries.

“Sa pagkakaron, ang atong gehulatan as far as the SBDP projects implementation is concern mao ang mga technical documents para makasugod na ang ato ang mga barangays pinaagi sa atong mga provincial and city governments,” Agabe added. 

[What we are waiting for now as far as the SBDP projects implementation is concerned are the technical documents so that our barangays through the provincial and city governments can already start.]

Agabe has also encouraged all barangays in the region to undertake the Retooled Community Support Program so that local officials will be able to know what their constituents need and how to improve their governance. Philippine Information Agency
