MARAWI CITY, May 26–The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) intensified its information and education campaign to strengthen awareness about the coronavirus disease (COVID) – 19 vaccination drive of the national government and engage residents in the city to participate in the program.

During the conclusion of the week-long Marawi Week of Peace Sunday, May 23, PCOO Director Ma. Florinda Princess Duque assured the public that the government’s free vaccines underwent an intensive research study to ensure safety and efficacy even for those who have comorbidity.

[I want to guarantee you that the vaccines we are giving to our countrymen for free are really intensively studied by the experts. If any of you have comorbidities, you can still be vaccinated… The vaccine will serve as an added protection.]

Duque also reiterated that while the vaccine will be an additional armour against the pandemic, this will not guarantee full immunity against the virus as it will only lessen the severity.

[If you will be completely vaccinated, you can still have COVID but if you get COVID, that will only be like a cold. That will not be severe anymore. You will not suffer attacks of anything anymore. You will not suffer or die anymore. That will be the protection and what the vaccine will do for you.]

Meanwhile, PCOO Asec. Jusan Vincent Arcena firmly called on the citizens to wholeheartedly take part in the offered free inoculation to pave way for herd immunity.

[If you have the opportunity to be vaccinated, get vaccinated. Do not hesitate because we need to inoculate 70% of our population to attain herd immunity and eventually, we will be able to remove our masks already.] Philippine Information Agency
