COTABATO CITY: Police have arrested two persons for shabu and illegal possession of a firearm in Aleosan, North Cotabato, the provincial police office reported Tuesday.

Col. Henry Villar, North Cotabato provincial police director, identified the suspects as Wahid Tito Sakandal, 44, and Norodib Panalindang Sakandal, 27, both of Barangay Malingao, Midsayap town in the same province.

Villar said the suspects, who were onboard a motorbike, were passing by a police checkpoint in Barangay Dualing in Aleosan town late Monday afternoon but refused to stop, prompting the lawmen to give chase.

“The suspects were later cornered and arrested at another police checkpoint in Barangay Katalicanan whose personnel were alerted about the ongoing chase,” Villar said.

Seized from the Sakandals were a loaded .45-caliber pistol, three small packets of shabu with a street value of PHP15,000, and their motorcycle.

Charges for violation of R.A.10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and R.A. 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) are being readied against the suspects currently detained at the Aleosan police station.
