COTABATO CITY: An estimated PHP100,000 worth of suspected shabu and a firearm were seized during a law enforcement operation in Lanao del Sur province, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PDEA-BARMM) reported Thursday.
PDEA-BARMM Director Juvenal Azurin said a joint team of PDEA agents and troops from the Marine Battalion Landing Team 5 conducted the anti-drug operation in Barangay Montay of Malabang town at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
“The target of the operation, however, managed to escape,” Azurin told reporters here in an interview.
He said PDEA has long been monitoring the illegal activities of the drug suspect identified only as a certain “Dekie”, a high-value target in the coastal town of Malabang, and carried out the operation after a poseur-buyer confirmed the presence of their target in the area.
“The suspect seemingly sensed that lawmen are closing in at his house, prompting him to escape,” Azurin said.
Government forces recovered at the suspect’s house some 15 grams of shabu, marked money, an M-16 rifle with ammunition, and shabu paraphernalia.
Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 were filed against the suspect.
