ZAMBOANGA CITY: The Department of Agriculture (DA) has distributed on Tuesday some PHP2.6 million worth of cash and food subsidy to corn farmers in Zamboanga del Sur.
DA-9 executive director Rad Donn Cedeño said 515 corn farmers from different barangays in Pagadian City benefited from the cash and food subsidy distribution.
Cedeño said each of the recipients received cash and food subsidy, which consists of two sacks of rice worth PHP2,000 and PHP3,000 cash.
He said the DA corn program and Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division (AMAD) facilitated the mass distribution of the subsidy to the identified recipients.
“The cash and food subsidy program is in support to the holistic transformation of agriculture as initiated by Secretary William Dar in recognizing all the work of farmers and fishers to continue producing food for all,” he said.
DA Undersecretary for Regulations Zamzamin Ampatuan, who witnessed the cash and food subsidy distribution, said the farmers and fisherfolk play a significant role in sustaining food production during the pandemic.
“This time, it is rightful that the government will look after the needs of our farmers and fisher folks,” Ampatuan said.
Ampatuan was in Pagadian City on Tuesday as he graced the 1st Halal Agri-Fishery Congress in that city where he also met with DA officials as well as officials of some towns in Zamboanga del Sur.
Meanwhile, Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Victor Yu, 1st District Rep. Divina Grace Yu and the city government of Pagadian City expressed full support to DA’s cash and food subsidy program.
