ZAMBOANGA CITY: Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar ordered Wednesday City Health Office and the Office of Barangay Affairs to ensure the availability of testing reagents for the mandatory drug tests on Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) members and city government employees.
Salazar issued the order after the recent arrest of an SK official and two city government employees for drug-related charges.
Earlier, the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) reported that John Rey Jubilan, 25, the SK chairperson of Barangay Ayala, and his friend Marlon Gonzalez, 18, were arrested in an anti-drug operation on March 10 in Barangay Talisayan.
Jubilan and Gonzales yielded some PHP17,000 worth of suspected shabu, police said.
Salazar said she has met with Councilors Josephine Pareja and Al-Jihan Edding to request the city’s SK Federation for a mandatory drug test” on all SK officials in the city.
Both Pareja and Edding were formerly SK chairpersons in Barangay Talisayan and Guiwan, respectively.
“They cannot be good examples for the youth if they are into drugs,” Salazar said, referring to the arrested youth official. “We will continue to advocate for drug-free communities and a drug-free Zamboanga City.”
The mayor said the city government has allocated funds for the rehabilitation of drug users and dependents.
