2 young siblings die in Tandag City fire

BUTUAN CITY: Two children died when a fire razed 13 houses in Tandag City, Surigao del Sur on Wednesday.

In a statement, the local government said the fire started at around 6 a.m. along Tello St., Barangay Bongtud, affecting 17 families.

It said the two children — a 7-year-old boy and his 4-year-old sister — were trapped inside the house and died during the conflagration.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said it was still trying to determine the cause of the fire and the total amount of damages incurred as of Wednesday afternoon.

Tandag City Mayor Roxanne C. Pimentel, who rushed to the scene for an ocular inspection, assured the victims of immediate financial assistance and relief aid.
