BARMM logs 27 new Covid-19 cases

The Ministry of Health – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Covid-19 report as of Aug. 28, 2020.

COTABATO CITY: The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) registered 27 new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) positive patients as of Friday night, the Ministry of Health (MOH-BARMM) said.

All the new cases were from Lanao del Sur and the city of Marawi.

It was the second time that the two areas registered a high number of cases for a single day. Three weeks ago, the provincial government of Lanao del Sur and IPHO have declared the existence of local transmission after 33 patients who have no travel history or have not left Lanao del Sur tested positive for Covid-19.

BARMM now has a total of 641 Covid-19 cases since March 18.  The region currently has 165 active cases and 455 recoveries, translating to a 71-percent recovery rate.

Two more patients, also from Lanao del Sur and Marawi City, have died, raising the Covid-19 related deaths to 17.

To date, Lanao del Sur remained on top with the most number of cumulative confirmed cases at 297 followed by Basilan (108), Maguindanao (95), Sulu (17), and Tawi-Tawi (4).

Lanao del Sur health officials said they have already intensified information campaign to educate the public to strictly observe health protocols.

“It’s still increasing and we cannot heal as one if there is one of us not cooperating,” said Dr. Alinader Minalang, Lanao del Sur health officer.

Minalanbg reminded residents to always practice MWSS: Mask as it must be worn at all times when going out or when talking to people; Wash hands frequently with soap and water; Social distancing of at least two meters; and Social gathering avoidance especially on venues with poor ventilation.

“These may sound difficult to do especially the double ‘S’ part but it is better to be safe than sorry. Everyone must understand and adjust to the new normal,” Minalang said.
