P1.2-M illegal drugs seized in Soccsksargen in over 2 months

GENERAL SANTOS CITY: Police units in Region 12 (Soccsksargen) recovered over PHP1.2 million worth of illegal drugs in its enhanced anti-drug campaigns in over two months.

Brig. Gen. Michael John Dubria, Police Regional Office (PRO)-12 chief, said in a report on Monday the illegal drugs were seized in 358 search operations and buy-busts since he assumed office on May 20.

Dubria said the operations yielded a total of 184.6 grams of shabu and 6.65 grams of marijuana and collared 315 drug pushers, couriers, and suppliers.

At least 43 suspects also died for allegedly resisting arrest during the operations, he said.

Dubria said the spike in drug-related accomplishments was part of the regional police’s shift in strategy in response to the continuing coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

Persistent problem

While crime incidents significantly dropped during the heightened community quarantine measures last March, the police official said illegal drug-related activities persisted during the period.

Right after assuming office, Dubria mandated periodic simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operations in the region.

“This is a series of major operations aimed at addressing all forms of criminal activities as well as security-related concerns,” he said, adding the police already arrested at least 60 top most wanted persons in the region as part of the campaign.

“This is a continuing campaign and rest assured that we remain focused on accomplishing our mandates despite the pandemic,” he said.
