DAVAO CITY: The Department of Health XI gave the credit to the local government units (LGUs) which put in place procedures and measures to ensure safety of the locality despite the arrival of returning residents.

In One Davao on COVID19 Virtual Presser held on Tuesday (May 5), DOH XI Assistant Regional Director Dr. Lenny Joy Rivera said that the DOH is only providing assistance to the LGUs but the initiative and effort in ensuring for strict compliance to procedure is done by the LGU itself.

“May 12 steps na sinusunod at nakalagay iyon sa memorandum na pinirmahan ni Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte,” Dr. Rivera said.

In the first sweeper flight sponsored by the Davao City government, about 147 passengers arrived in the City last May 2, 2020.

The 12-step procedure includes the filling out of contact tracing form, the issuance of a Symptom Screening Card to the returning resident, and conduct of a Symptom Screening and an RDT test.

Dr. Rivera shared that the memorandum specifically cited that symptomatic must be sent to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) for swabbing and it could assign a facility.

Those asymptomatic with positive RDT result will also be sent to SPMC for swabbing and to be put in a COVID facility while those asymptomatic with negative RDT can be sent for Home Quarantine.

Also part of the procedure is that the District Health Office should send the individual back to SPMC if symptoms develop within 14 days.

“ An individual can also be sent home for strict quarantine if the returning resident is asymptomatic and tested negative in an RDT. Bago rin sila pumunta dito sa Davao City, na quarantine na rin sila sa Manila. Pagdating nila ditto, ina-assess uli sila at tinetest thru RDT,” Dr. Rivera explained.

For the repatriation of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the DOH XI bared that it has made arrangements with the Go Hotel incase some repatriates would be needing a place to stay.

The Davao City LGU has also prepared a makeshift isolation facility like the one at the Treatment and Rehabilitation Center (TRC) Malagos   which has 70 rooms available and ready to accommodate repatriates and returning residents.
