MARAWI CITY: Despite being under general community quarantine (GCQ) due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, the local government of the Islamic city of Marawi has hosted a simple festivity during Ramadan, the Islam’s holy month of fasting observed by Muslims throughout the world.
Mayor Majul U. Gandamra personally led the launching of the four-day activity with a theme, “The Qur-an is Guidance and Healing.” which started on Wednesday, May 6, until Saturday, May 9.
The program which started on Wednesday, May 6, until Saturday, May 9, includes among others competitions on Qur-an reading and the Call to Prayer or Azan. Both are judged on the voice, melody, rhyme and correct enunciation and pronunciation.
In normal days, Ramadan is not only about fasting from dawn to dusk. It is also time for religious celebrations, for giving charity especially to the needy so they may feel the spirit of Ramadan.
