Marawi City Division (MCD) is set to renovate its old conference hall into a modern-type that will be furnished with digital sound system and other equipment to cater to the need of the division’s teaching force and staff in providing quality education to their children.

The conference hall has not been for meetings used since the outbreak of the Marawi Siege in May 2017.

It was used by the Department of Education Operations Center in Marawi as bodega of relief goods and supplies intended for the displaced persons of the 2017 Marawi Siege.

Meetings of staff and the teaching force of the division have to be held temporarily from one room to another in the division office, at times in classrooms of the Amai Pakpak Central Elementary Schools (APCES) which accommodates the school division several years back.

When asked by local media why she ordered taking out of the relief supplies from the conference hall, Schools Division Superintendent Pharida L. Sansarona said, “Now that Marawi City has been stable and there was no more fighting, the conference hall must be used for its very purpose.”

“But it could not be used at the present because it is destroyed by pests such as cockroaches, mice and the like since it was always closed. It needs to be renovated,” she added.

Just a few days ago, Sansarona ordered the pulling out of remaining supplies in the conference hall such as books and medicines among others.

She said many of these supplies were found to have been damaged and expired and had to be thrown away for they may affect the health of the division’s constituents, especially the children. (Mas Yahya/RSP)
