At first it was noted by the SP and admitted by the City Agriculturist’s Office that the estimated damage suffered by corn farmers was about 5 Million metric tons when the truth of the matter was that the report meant only 5,000 metric tons.
Later, Councilor Ariel Anghay found that the list of farmers of Barangay Tubod included individuals whom he personally knows are not farmers.
He raised the possibility that the lists of farmers of other barangays may have also included persons who are not farmers.
Indigenous People Representative Councilor Rolando Soong also found that there were only few farmers in the list of Barangay Rogongon when almost all the residents are farmers.
Anghay also noted that the list of fishermen have many errors as in barangay Tambacan alone many were not included in the list.
In the list of Fishermen of barangay Tibanga, listeners to a local radio program called in that one person in the list is already dead while another caller said that some persons’ names were listed more than once and a certain school teacher was also listed as a fisherman.
Councilor Bayani Areola said that the Council wants to pass the State of Calamity Resolution as soon as possible but it must be sure that legal requirements are complied with.
On the other hand, Anghay moved to require the appearance before the SP of the persons listed as farmers in barangay Tubod whom he knows are not farmers to verify whether they have already gone farming and whether or not they know that their names are included in the list of farmers.
