The Asian Sports Academy (ASA) in collaboration with the United States Embassy conducted a 3-day Training of Trainors (TOT) last May 22 to 25 at the Mindanao Civic Center Sports Complex, Tubod , Lanao Del Norte.
More than 20 teachers and coaches from the Department of Education (DepEd) Lanao Del Norte Schools Division Office participated in the ASA Training of Trainors.
The program aims to build players capacity to deliver grass roots building resilience, Life skills and conflict resolution education for youth beneficiaries of respective schools and university. The program also contributes in developing the youth capacity with its target area.
In an interview, Lee Hawkins ASA Foundation Technical Director stated that they have been working for the last 15 years in using professional schools development as a vehicle to educate, empower young and adult teachers, coaches and out of school youth.
“With this sustainable strategy, this is how we leave a legacy on our target areas. “ Hawkin said.
It was also gathered that the beneficiaries’ are local teachers and coaches. The beneficiaries are trained where they become ASA trainers while they go along and train universities, schools and community where they will empower the students and report daily on their activities and program footage that will provide sustainable mechanism dubbed as “Training a Trainor master workshop.”
“The US Embassy strongly believes that Sports is the perfect way to affect change that can contribute to human development and in particular empower and educate young people to tackle the problems they face and build social skills.” Ms. Carolyn B. Glassman Counselor for Public Affairs, US Embassy Manila told the media.
She further enumerated that throughout the year they have funded programs all over the Philippines in the area of sports particularly in helping the people in Mindanao. “That is why this program is such a perfect program in meeting our goals doing what we can in the community level and the said train the trainers skill for them where they can share out to their community.
